Garrett's Eagle Scout project!!

Garrett is working on his Eagle Scout project. This is another "Scouting" experience that me, as a non-scouting mother, is amazed my boys choose to participate in. It is fun to see them set these goals and work towards acheiving them. This is the letter that he has sent out to our neighborhood. A similar one will be going out to businesses, hospitals, etc. Anyone wanting to help would be great!! (This is quite overwhelming for me as his mom!)I think that it is a great idea and he came up with it. No help from me.
EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT!
for Garrett Harris
I am doing a three part safety project for my eagle scout.
Part 1: How keeping your outside lights on during the night reduces crime in our neighborhood. (More information to come on this)
Part 2: 72 hour basic First Aid Kits for our Ward. I will be putting together 106 first aid kits for our ward. I would appreciate any donations of supplies or money to accomplish this. Basic items for 1st Aid Kits may include the following as suggestions:bandaids, alcohol wipes, neosporin, burn free, triangular bandages, thermomoters, tweezers. scissors, matches, etc. I will need these donations by August 7,2008. If you choose to donate money, please make checks payable to me. I thank you in advance for this and will deliver the kits by no later than Sept. 30,2008.
Part 3: It is important to have our addresses on our mailbox in case of an emergency. I think that it would cut the time it takes for police, ambulance, etc, to find our homes. I am offering to put your address on it with your choice of white or black vinyl. Please let me know if you are interested in this, the color you want and your address by August 7, 2008. Thank you for helping me achieve my goal in becoming an Eagle Scout.
Sincerely,
Garrett Harris

Coming Soon!!

I have been asked for several recipes, so I will be adding a link to them soon. I just need to get them all together. Hang in there and it will be ready soon!!

Week Long Backpacking Hike

Monts scout troop has been on several overnight scout backpacking hike to prepare for the "Big One" . This weekend they went on a week long backpacking hike up to Tye Fork in Spanish Fork Canyon. They hiked to Strawberry, then around, and down to Diamond Fork. I think this was a brilliant idea. Sleeping quarters were less than desirable to me. Not my idea of the Marriott. We didn't have to ship them out of State with gas as high as it is, they were close enough that we didn't really have to worry, and the families were invited up the last night for dutch oven dinner that was wonderful.
We had B-B-Que boneless pork ribs, dutch oven potatoes, and cobbler.Talk about pigs. They did skits for us and told jokes. I was so fun. I can't even stand how dirty they were. They were so happy to see their families. The first day Mont cut his finger bad enough that he should have had stitches, but they just wrapped it (I'm sure with toilet paper) to stop the bleeding, put a bandaid on it and repeated these things when it started to bleed again. Welcome to the mans world of fixing cuts. I am surprised that the Duct Tape didn't come out. This is definatly not what I call fun, but the boys have loved it. I can't believe that someone who has such an attitude towards scouts, lets her child be so active in the program.

Heber Creeper Train Ride

One tradition that my parents started 11 years ago is that when ever one of the kids are potty trained, they take all the kids on the Heber Creeper. It is so fun for the kids and they look forward to it.
It has really helped to potty train all 11 grandchildren. This year Sunny, who is Portias youngest, was potty trained so we spent Friday on the Train. Portia and I hadn't been there for along time so we decided to go this time.We really enjoyed out ride. The kids had a great time and Grandma and Grandpa Clayton spoiled them. They had me trying to hold on to a pole and lift my legs to a 90 degree angle. I am a little out of shape for that but I gave it a try.Garrett was so funny and would walk behind the gate making it look like he was going down the stairs. We laughed so hard at him. It was nice to see him let his hair down a little and have some fun. The sites were beautiful and the bigger kids really want to float down the Provo River next. It was so hot it sounded good to me.Cute little Sunny would say, "All aboard!! Choo- Choo."She is at a very fun age. Then we went to Delta to celebrate Sadies 16th birthday. Portia had a surprise party for her. There were about 43 kids there and Toddy and I made hamburgers and hotdogs. Her cake was to cute.It looked like a drivers license. There were a couple of boys that could really play the paino. I have never heard such music from these boys. One of them was playing the theme from "Charlie Brown" and we set Sadie and her friend Mary on the piano. We laughed so hard at them. We also spent some time at the "Res". It was so hot that we had to cool off. We had a great weekend and are greatful for the days we can spend in Delta.

Where's Waldo? (aka Mike)

Mike has worked very hard on his garden this year. I told him to farm all he wanted to that I had plenty of it growing up. Also, our neighbors have had a snake or 13 in their yard and any of you that know how I feel about snakes know that that is the real reason that I am not getting out there. NO WAY! Anyway, his tomatoes are so big that you can hardly see him!!

His peas did good and we ate squash tonight. His peppers are also doing great!! Hopefully we will know what to do with all 38ish tomato plants and 60ish peppers. Any ideas, let us know!

Memory Tag!!

My friend Lerin sent this to me and I thought it was fun. Here is how it goes: 1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember! 2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. If you don't want to play on your blog, or if you don't have a blog, I'll leave my memory of you in my comments.
